A ‘Hakeem’ is a health provider who practices herbal medicine called ‘Hikmat’. It falls into the category of alternative medicine. Herbal medicine is based on the principles of pharmacognosy, which is the knowledge of medicinal plants. Plants have been the basis of medical treatment throughout most of human history. Medicinal plants are very cheap and the treatment is affordable to almost everyone.

 

Hakeem Syed Ghulam Mohammed Shah was a historical legend of Sindh in the time of the British rulers, before the birth Pakistan. He revolutionized herbal medicine in the region of Sindh, and he wrote many handwritten books on Hikmat.

He settled in a small village 15 miles from the west bank of the Indus river. That village became very famous because of his God-devoted qualities to treat the poor communities. That village was named Lakhi Ghulam Shah, after his name.
